The Spine and the Breath in Yoga

Scaravelli inspired yoga is unique and challenging – both to practice and, particularly, to teach. Vanda’s approach to the body offers a fresh way of looking at the body and the postures, which will nourish and inspire you in your yoga journey.

As teachers, we can only teach from our own practice.  We will therefore focus on nurturing our own yoga practice; refining and refreshing it, so that we can pass on our discoveries and revised understanding to others with skill and clarity.  Each day we’ll look at a different aspect or approach to practice, so that you leave with some fresh inspiration, and answers to your specific questions.

This course is designed specifically for yoga teachers, yoga teacher trainees and anyone with a serious interest in exploring their practice, to refine their practice and teaching.  This Scaravelli Inspired Immersion Course is an opportunity to expand the ways we teach yoga as inspired by the work of Vanda Scaravelli and is constantly evolving in response to requests from current and returning attendees.

Course Outline

Refine your Practice: Spine and the Breath

Vanda focused on three main elements in practice: the pull of gravity, the breath, and the resulting response in the spine.  This course will focus on developing our own authentic approach to practice, with attention to all these areas, and particularly to the articulations of the spine, and the effect of the breath on our practice.

There will be a Posture Clinic session, dedicated to answering specific questions on asanas or aspects of the practice you may be working with, or would like to explore in more depth.

Limited to just 20 attendees (17 residential, 3 non-residential/camping), the course will help you:

  • Discover a clearer understanding of the principles of this approach to yoga, with specific focus on the articulations of the spine, and the effect of breath on our yoga practice
  • Deepen your knowledge of anatomy and structural relationships
  • Understand and explore the mechanics of breath and the spine
  • Develop fresh subtle approaches to adjusting / assisting your students
  • Refresh and reinvigorate your own personal practice and teaching

Gary Carter will be joining us again for a full day.  He will lead two, 3 hour long sessions:

Practicalities and Booking

Class begins at 11am on Wednesday 10th with departure at 2.30pm on Sunday 14th.  Sessions begin at 9.30am each morning, with time for meditation, walks to the beach, and plenty of deep observational practice.
