Walking, Yoga, Meditation, Silence – Developing Inner Peace with Roz Robinson:
Our lives are full of noise and distractions every minute of the day; from the moment we get up in the morning to the moment we go to bed, not a second goes by where we are not being subjected to disturbances; either externally (media, work pressures, relationship problems etc. etc…) or internally through our emotions (fear, guilt, self loathing…), and thoughts (to do lists, fantasising, ruminating on the past… ).
This weekend will be an opportunity for those of you who would like to step back from the demands of modern life and give yourself the time and space to reflect and discover the extraordinary peace that lies within us and in the world around us. (It will be in silence from after the introduction on the Friday evening to just before lunch on the Sunday).
Walking in nature in silence can be a profound meditation; it can help to release the tensions that we, often unknowingly, hold on to and over the weekend Roz will be guiding two walks, each up to two-and-a-half hours long, giving you the opportunity to really connect with the natural environment around you. There will be three yoga classes that will focus upon using the breath and movement to facilitate a deepening of our connection with our bodies at both a physical and an emotional level; giving a perfect opportunity to use the physical practice of yoga to encourage an acceptance and better understanding of ourselves.
There will also be guided walking, standing, seated and lying down meditation sessions that will give you the opportunity to experience a few of the different meditation practices available and to establish which suits you the best. Within the meditation practice we will use the breath to sooth and quieten the mind and allow us to practice being the observer of our thoughts.
Roz has an open, grounded and warm approach; her practice is gentle, deep and rewarding. You can expect a special weekend where you will be guided through some of the most beautiful landscape in England, safely held in silence with the time and space to allow you to explore your self and to reconnect with the nature. This is a retreat to revive, calm and inspire you and is suitable for both experienced practitioners and people new to yoga, meditation and/or to silence.
The teaching is offered on a donation-only basis and you will be given the opportunity to make a financial contribution at the end of the weekend. The cost for dormitory accommodation and vegetarian meals, including refreshments, is £145 for the whole retreat (Friday evening to Sunday afternoon).
This retreat is open to everyone, however, please bear in mind that the walks will be up to two and a half hours long over the South Downs. Please also remember that a retreat needs to be approached with a degree of care and respect, both for ourselves and for others, and we ask that you participate fully in the schedule. This creates a strong ‘container’ for the powerful transformative experience that being on retreat can allow.
